Lao President Choummaly Sayasone adresses UN Sustainable Development Summit

The President of Laos, Mr. Choummaly Sayasone delivered a country statement at the UN Sustainable Development Summit.

At the Sustainable Development Summit, which was part of the 70th session of the General Assembly, 193 member states of the UN approved new development goals to be achieved by 2030. 

In his statement, President Choummaly stated that the Lao PDR has reached the target of halving the proportion of people whose income is less than one dollar a day even before the target year 2015. 

Projections show that the under-five mortality rate has dropped from 170 to 70 per 1,000 live births between 1993 and 2015. 

President Choummaly confirmed the Lao PDR's continued commitment to further the global development agenda and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
